How Vision Therapy Has Helped
Our son has made tremendous strides since completing his Vision Therapy. He has struggled with his reading and other subjects since Kindergarten. Homework was a great chore every night and often ended in crying episodes. He frequently skipped or replaced words, and lost his place in the story. He had limited concentration, lacked focus, and procrastinated daily to get his work done.
Several months after beginning vision therapy, we started to notice him read books independently for pleasure and demonstrated neater handwriting in his schoolwork. When he told me he completed his first chapter book, I was nearly in tears. This was a huge accomplishment!
Now our son comes home from school and has a plan to complete his homework and schedule time for after school activities such as friends, football, and baseball. Baseball is his favorite sport. However, batting has been very difficult for him in the past. Since starting practice this season, we have seen him hit ball after ball.
He also has an additional challenge. He has had Type 1 Diabetes since he was four years old. He has matured in this area by taking more responsibility in managing his sugars. We see a real change in his confidence figuring his carbohydrate counts, insulin needs, and changing his infusion set for his pump with no reminders.
Our son has really enjoyed participating in the therapy. Dr. Winters and the staff make the process fun and provide a lot of positive feedback. He frequently asks when he gets to go back to vision therapy.
I think Vision Therapy helped me in school. It helped me in school. It helped me pay attention better and I have actually been able to catch balls better in P.E. class.
Vision Therapy has also been a benefit to me in gymnastics because my depth perception has also improved.
I would definitely recommend Vision Therapy to others. The staff at Washington Vision Therapy Center was great to work with, the activities were fun, and it was a great experience.
